The Challenge
Walworth County has a growing population of 102,000 people in the Chicago-Milwaukee corridor. Situated in southeastern Wisconsin along the Illinois border, Walworth County provides a strategic business location within easy driving distance of Milwaukee to the north, Chicago to the south, and Madison to the west. Among the 72 counties in Wisconsin, Walworth County is the fourth-largest county in the state to attain more than 10% population growth since the 2000 census, with growth in every city in the County, including a 38% increase in Elkhorn. Like many counties across the country, Walworth is concerned about increasing investment and attracting new businesses. The challenge was to create a set of infographics that highlighted the proximity and prosperity of the County in order to retain and attract new development.The Solution
Choosing the right location is an important decision that can ultimately determine the success or failure of any new business. To facilitate the long-term economic growth that thriving businesses can provide, Walworth County Economic Development Association began looking for an approach to business sighting that would leverage the counties wealth of development opportunities. The ideal solution would allow for the County to highlight its proximity to regional assets as well as display the multiple economic development opportunities available. By utilizing a richly designed base map and an easy to understand infographics, we will allow users to easy gain a snapshot of the rich landscape of economic development opportunities in Walworth County. Leaders in the Economic Development Association selected the business sighting factors integrated into the base maps, including proximity to interstate exits, regional airports, existing business park infrastructure, and state incentive areas. With GIS, we can deliver detailed property and demographic data as well as information on existing businesses locations and infrastructure in maps and reports. The goal is to show investors the clear value of doing business in Walworth County.
