About us

The GIS Center is a “center” within the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater that specializes in providing GIS products to clients on and off campus and conducting GIS-related research. Our goal is to provide our students with hands-on real-world experience with cutting-edge GIS tools to enhance their skills and provide them with better prospects for graduate school or their professional life.

Wondering what GIS is? It stands for geographic information systems — a suite of software tools to conduct computerized mapping and analysis. We’ll let Wikipedia and ESRI fill you in on the details. Jobs in GIS are growing rapidly (the Bureau of Labor Statistics is projecting 29% growth!), so it’s a good choice for our students, and we’d like to give them a leg up.
